The small size and slim body of these subtle flush bolts make them the alternative to espagnolettes. Bascule flush bolts find their closure through a siphon mechanism that requires the handle to be fully lifted from bottom to top. This makes it impossible to operate the latch without using the siphon, thus automatically blocking the latch and ensuring proper secure closure. We often see this shape of door locks on double-leaf doors where there is therefore no frame pillar in the middle and the doors close into each other. The fixed door may have recesses in the end that these flush bolts disappear into, but this need not be the case.
